Jo Platt worked in PR for many years before taking a part time job to raise her family. Having always had an interest in her community, Jo worked with many local groups and volunteered to help women who were victims of domestic abuse. 

She was elected Leigh’s first female MP in 2017, succeeding Andy Burnham who left Parliament to become the Mayor of Greater Manchester.

On 13 July 2017 she became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Angela Rayner and she is also a Member of the Communities and Local Government Select Committee. On 10 July 2018 she became Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office.
