We have just received this devastating news from Zimbabwe. Almost half of Jessie’s House Academy roof was blown away by strong winds at around 5.45pm on Friday 1st February. We are shocked at the scale of the damage, but at the same time grateful that no one was hurt. It happened less than an hour after the children and most of the staff had left for the day. The damage to the roof is quite substantial as you can see on the pictures below. A few other homes in the same locality were totally destroyed.
This is very uncommon in the area; the last time strong winds like these were experienced was 30 years ago. It will take a while for the villagers to recover from such a shock; they were so proud of the building.
We have set up an emergency appeal with a target of £4,000 to cover the cost of roof trusses, roof sheets, cement, nails and paint. You can donate through our usual methods or through a specific Just Giving page set up by our partners Jubilee Campaign. To visit this page please follow this Just giving link.
