Aid Shipments
Recovery and reconstruction post-tsunami is obviously a long-term process and the Epiphany Trust continues to work to help the people of Sri Lanka rebuild their lives.
In May, 2007, a 40 foot container, financed by the Trust and by Liverpool City Council’s “Hands across the Sea” appeal, arrived in Columbo. Its main cargo was a refurbished dental surgery purchased from Dentaid (a charity supplying dental equipment to developing countries) to be operated by Dr. Leel Siriwardane, a dental surgeon at Columbo Hospital. It also contained school and medical equipment collected by well-wishers from Warrington, Wigan and Merseyside. The goods were distributed to tsunami affected schools, nurseries and individual families.
A second container was dispatched in April, 2009 with a cargo of school equipment and supplies of all kinds – desks, tables,
chairs, paper, exercise books etc. It also contained a large
amount of cricket gear donated by cricket clubs in Lancashire,
Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. This was in
response to an appeal on our behalf by cricketing legend
David Lloyd and is for the use of eager young Sri Lankan cricketing hopefuls!
